“My So-Called Iraqi Wedding” is a comedy proof-of-concept short about the pressures Arab American Muslim women face in reconciling traditional values with a growing, modern society that encourages us to find our own happiness.
SAMIRA “SAMI” RAMSEY always expected she’d get married because it’s what was expected of her - often in a big, lavish Iraqi wedding spanning days and with multiple rituals. Her Mother MUNA, is pushing for all the traditions. Her social-media savvy father, NOURI, just wants his daughter to be happy… while he live-streams the event on TikTok. Sami herself intends to honor her dearly departed aunt REEMA, who taught her to always listen to her heart. But how do you listen to your heart when everything around you is so damn loud?”
My So-Called Iraqi Wedding has played at 23 festivals in ‘25-’26, winning two awards.
